Indian Motorcycle is marking its 125th anniversary with a motorcycle that looks back at one of the most important chapters in American motorcycling history: Sturgis, South Dakota.

The company has introduced the Chief Vintage Sturgis, SD Edition, a limited-production version of the Chief Vintage built as a tribute to the origins of the Sturgis motorcycle rally. Indian says just 125 examples will be produced worldwide, making this as much a collector’s motorcycle as a celebration of the brand’s heritage.

A motorcycle built around Sturgis heritage

Sturgis has become synonymous with American motorcycle culture, and Indian Motorcycle has a particularly strong connection to its early history. The rally’s origins can be traced back to Sturgis, South Dakota, where a rider, a race and an Indian Motorcycle were part of the event’s beginnings.

The new Chief Vintage Sturgis, SD Edition takes that history and wraps it around a modern Chief Vintage rather than attempting to recreate an old motorcycle. That means plenty of traditional Indian styling, but with modern mechanicals and electronics underneath.

Only 125 will be made

The most obvious reason this Chief Vintage is special is its rarity.

Indian Motorcycle is limiting production to 125 motorcycles worldwide, matching the company’s 125th anniversary. Each motorcycle receives its own numbered side-cover badge, identifying its place in the 125-bike production run.

The limited production also gives the motorcycle a stronger collector appeal than a standard Chief Vintage. This isn’t simply a new paint option that will be available in large numbers.

Classic Indian colours and details

The Sturgis edition gets an exclusive Indian Motorcycle Red and Cream two-tone paint scheme covering the tank and fenders. The combination is intended to reinforce the motorcycle’s connection with Indian’s earlier machines.

The tank also carries a new multi-colour Indian headdress design, while the illuminated headdress on the front fender continues one of the brand’s most recognisable styling cues. Indian dates the illuminated headdress back to 1947.

The rest of the motorcycle follows the same theme. Wire wheels, valanced fenders, vintage-style handlebars and an espresso-brown floating saddle give the Chief Vintage a distinctly old-school appearance.

There is also a #56 side-cover plate, adding another small piece of the Sturgis-inspired detailing.

A modern motorcycle underneath

Despite all the vintage styling, this isn’t an old-school motorcycle mechanically. That combination is probably what makes the Chief Vintage Sturgis Edition interesting. From a distance, it looks like a motorcycle that could have rolled out of an Indian showroom decades ago. Look closer, however, and there is a modern engine, electronic rider aids, cruise control, navigation and connectivity underneath the vintage styling.

The Chief Vintage Sturgis Edition is powered by Indian’s Thunderstroke engine, finished with black cylinders and silver-painted heads to give it a period-inspired appearance. Indian quotes 120 lb-ft of torque for the engine.

The motorcycle also gets three riding modes (Tour, Standard and Sport) along with ABS, cruise control, keyless ignition, full LED lighting and rear-cylinder deactivation. Metzeler CruiseTec tyres complete the package.

The motorcycle also comes with a 4-inch RIDE COMMAND display with GPS navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. RIDE COMMAND+ adds connected features such as account synchronisation.

Indian Motorcycle has expanded its 2026 lineup with the introduction of the new Signature Series, a limited-production collection that places a strong focus on premium craftsmanship and exclusive paint finishes. Available across four PowerPlus-powered models, the range is designed for riders looking for something more distinctive than the standard production motorcycles.

The Signature Series includes the Challenger, Chieftain PowerPlus, Pursuit, and Roadmaster PowerPlus. While the mechanical package remains unchanged, each motorcycle receives an elaborate multi-layer paint process combined with hand-finished detailing, creating a deeper, richer finish that changes character depending on the light and viewing angle.

Exclusive Paint Schemes

The two bagger models adopt a darker, more aggressive appearance with blacked-out engines and exhaust systems.

The Chieftain PowerPlus Signature Series features a combination of Gauge Gray, Abyss Metallic, Venom Green, and Cypher Green accents, giving it a bold custom-inspired look.

The Challenger Signature Series shares the same Gauge Gray and Abyss Metallic base but swaps the green accents for Machined Silver and Red Alert, creating a noticeably different personality while maintaining the premium finish.

Meanwhile, the touring models take inspiration from America’s upcoming 250th anniversary with patriotic colours.

The Roadmaster PowerPlus Signature Series combines Frontier Pearl with Vigilant Blue as the dominant colour, highlighted by Revere Red accents.

The Pursuit Signature Series uses the same colours but reverses the blue and red layout, giving both motorcycles their own individual appearance despite sharing the same palette.

Same Performance, More Exclusivity

Beneath the custom paintwork, the Signature Series models retain the proven PowerPlus 112 liquid-cooled V-twin introduced to these touring models in 2025. Derived from Indian’s King of the Baggers racing programme, the engine delivers the same performance found on the standard motorcycles.

Every Signature Series model also comes equipped with Indian’s latest rider technology, including:

• Electronic Combined Braking
• Blind Spot Warning
• Tailgate Warning
• Rear Collision Warning

A 7-inch Ride Command touchscreen remains standard, offering navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, vehicle information and smartphone integration.

The audio system is also upgraded as standard. The Challenger and Chieftain receive a 400-watt PowerBand Audio system, while the Pursuit and Roadmaster benefit from a 600-watt setup that takes advantage of the additional trunk-mounted speakers.

Pricing

The Signature Series commands a significant premium over the regular production models.

Compared with similarly equipped PowerPlus 112 models, the baggers carry roughly a $9,000 premium, while the touring models are priced approximately $11,250 higher.

Limited Availability

According to Indian Motorcycle, the Signature Series will be produced in limited numbers, with motorcycles expected to begin arriving at dealerships soon. Riders interested in one are encouraged to contact their local dealer early, as availability is expected to be limited.

The Signature Series effectively takes over the role once filled by Indian’s Elite models, offering exclusive styling and premium finishes while retaining the performance and technology of the company’s flagship PowerPlus touring motorcycles.
