A “civilization” program has tamed the beast, and in doing so, it’s lost some of its charm. Gone are the days of effortless acceleration, replaced by ponderous progress that requires careful gear selection. The engine still produces 77 horsepower, but it’s a more sedate animal now.
Handling is where the S2 shines, with precise steering and a planted feel at high speeds. But as the test riders noted, midrange punch is lacking, and a few more teeth on the rear wheel sprocket would be welcome to unlock its true potential. Despite these flaws, the Ducati 900 S2 remains an iconic motorcycle that will still put a smile on your face – but it’s not the same wild child of the past.
