The 2003 Ducati 620 Sport is an anomaly among its peers, boasting a traditional Desmo L Twin engine and slim frame that pays homage to the classic bikes of yesteryear.
Its four-stroke, 90-liter twin cylinder engine may not be as potent as some of its contemporaries, but it more than makes up for it with its distinctive character. The SOHC, desmodromic 2 valve per cylinder setup and belt-driven mechanism deliver a unique riding experience that’s as much about finesse as it is about brute force.
As you settle into the saddle, you’ll notice the seating position is slightly unconventional – the handlebars are positioned below the seat level, which can take some getting used to. However, once you’ve adapted, the 620 Sport reveals its true nature: a lightweight, agile machine that’s more than capable of carving up twisty roads and devouring motorways with ease.
Despite initial reservations about its performance, the 620 Sport proved itself to be a competent cruiser, able to maintain high speeds for extended periods without showing any signs of fatigue. In fact, it’s surprisingly comfortable, even after hours in the saddle. With a week spent living with this bike, I’m confident that it will continue to surprise and delight, its charm and character growing with each passing mile.
