The 500SL Pantah boasted an exceptional balance of performance and character, thanks to its Desmo valve gear and toothed belts for the cams. This resulted in a smooth, gutsy engine that delivered impressive acceleration and top speed, reaching an astonishing 117mph.
Riding the Pantah was a delight, with its light trellis frame providing excellent handling and a responsive chassis. Although the suspension could be improved upon, it was clear that Ducati had created something truly special in this bike. Over a decade later, many of the ideas first realized in the 500SL Pantah would continue to influence Ducati’s designs, cementing its status as an iconic motorcycle that still excites and inspires riders today.
