The BMW R 100RT, a tourer born from the loyalty of BMW’s faithful followers. In 1987, BMW resurrected the 1000cc Boxer, now available in RT, RS, and GS guises. This new RT boasts improved performance, retaining the quirks that define the BMW Twins. At its heart lies a 980cc, 60 horsepower engine, emphasizing a broad, smooth powerband. The low-end power has been increased, with a higher compression ratio, smaller carburetors, and a tuned exhaust system. The result is a strong, torque-rich engine, pulling hard from idle and feeling particularly strong between 3000 and 5000 rpm. It’s a perfect blend of power and cruising ability, suitable for any speed up to 90 mph, and will effortlessly push the barn-door fairing through the air at 105 mph.
