BMW K75SA (1984)

The BMW K75SA is a paradigm-shifting motorcycle that defies traditional engine characteristics. Unlike the low-end-torque machines of its time, the K75’s engine feels almost flywheel-less, with a twitch of the throttle unleashing a surge of power without the familiar torque-induced pull to the right.

The engine’s unique sound is a high-pitched whine that’s both familiar and strange, evoking the Jetson’s iconic hovercars. While fuel-injected engines often leave riders feeling disconnected, the K75’s potent acceleration is undeniable.

Starting the engine is a breeze, thanks to the fast-idle cam on the injector controller, and once it’s running, the idle is smooth and refined. The drivetrain, shared with the R65, has been tweaked for improved performance, with a crisper clutch and a slightly improved gearbox.

The shift lever now stops in the middle position after first gear, providing a clear indication when you’ve reached the bottom. While the gearbox remains notchy, the K75’s overall package offers a thrilling riding experience that’s both engaging and rewarding.
