KTM 495 Pro-Lever (1982 – 85)

The KTM 495 Pro-Lever is a bold new entry from the Austrian marque, marking their foray into the world of 500cc four-stroke engines. Built in partnership with Rotax, this 504cc powerhouse boasts a 89 x 81mm bore and stroke, and is equipped with a four-valve head, single cam belt, and Nippondenso capacitor discharge ignition.

The bike’s character is unmistakably raw and unbridled, with a 34mm Bing carb supplying a potent punch of power. Dry sump lubrication and a double-trochoid pump ensure efficient circulation, while primary gears and a wet clutch transmit the power to a five-speed gearbox.

We had the chance to test the KTM 495 Pro-Lever on a challenging European Enduro circuit, where ace motocross rider Dave Tomasik showcased its capabilities with a series of daring jumps and hairpin turns. The bike’s performance was nothing short of exhilarating, with its four-stroke engine delivering a unique and thrilling riding experience.
