Benelli 654 Sport (1982)

Benelli654Sport Unknown (1982)

The Benelli 654 Sport is a true Italian classic, boasting a sleek design reminiscent of the iconic CB650. Its four-cylinder engine may not have been the most powerful, but it possessed a unique character that made every ride an experience.

With its taut suspension and precise handling, this bike was no stranger to agility. The Benelli’s reputation for delivering exceptional handling is well-known, even in more unlikely configurations. As I discovered during my time with the 654 Sport, its four-stroke motor may have been a bit gutless at times, but it had its sweet spot between 5000 and 9000 rpm.

Riding the 654 Sport was an exercise in finesse, as one had to carefully balance throttle input with gear selection to avoid over-revving. The bike’s taller gearing and larger sprocket made for an engaging experience, but required some skill to navigate tight corners without stalling. Despite its quirks, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the ride, even when pushed to its limits.

In the end, it was a testament to the Benelli 654 Sport’s charm that I remained hooked on this unlikely machine long after our initial encounter.
