Harley Davidson FLHR/I Road King (2001 – 2002)

Harley Davidson FLHR/I Road King (2001 - 2002)

The latest iteration of the iconic Road King has arrived, boasting a wealth of refinements that promise to elevate its already impressive performance credentials. The 2001 FLHR features an ESPFI system with 38mm throttle bore electronic sequential port fuel injection, delivering seamless power delivery and excellent throttle response. This is a machine designed for long-distance touring, as I had the pleasure of discovering on two previous Road King adventures, which saw me conquer over 800 miles in one sitting.

However, it wasn’t until I climbed onto the latest iteration that I truly appreciated its unique character. The steep rake and familiar FL front end imbue the Road King with an undeniable classic bike charm, while the excellent leverage on the bars makes steering feel delightfully light and effortless.

As I settled into the ride, my reservations about the new Road King began to dissipate, replaced by a growing appreciation for its unique dynamics. With its exceptional power delivery and agile handling, this is a machine that rewards experienced riders with a deep connection to the road and the thrill of the ride. And as I recall the films of old America’s most iconic bike riders, I know that the 2001 FLHR Road King is truly worthy of joining their ranks.
